Not much has been revealed about the game yet, but instead of actually talking about the game, the developers have been very open instead about their thinking process and the inspirations behind each component of its game sound design, music, characters, storytelling, and the psychology of horror itself. The game does not have a definite release date yet, but according to the latest Gamescom 2021 trailer, the studio is still keen on delivering the full experience this year.

The evolution does not only involve the direction but also the game engine being used, as the new game will utilize Unreal Engine 4, unlike Outlast 1 and 2 which were made in Unreal Engine 3.
